First Battery is a South African battery manufacturing company that has been in operation since 1931. The company has a long history of producing high-quality batteries for various applications, including automotive, industrial, and mining.

1969

First Battery had a major partnership with Raylite Batteries, which helped to expand its market reach and improve its product offerings. In 1976, the company merged with Chloride South Africa, which further strengthened its position in the market.

1990

First Battery introduced its name as a brand, which became synonymous with quality and reliability.

1995

First Battery's first smelter became operational, which helped to increase its production capacity and efficiency. That same year, the company became a division of Metindustrial Pty limited, which helped to further enhance its market presence.

1999

First acquired Darmag Plastic Plant, which enabled it to expand its product offerings and improve its manufacturing capabilities.

2001

The company opened a dedicated industrial plant, which helped to streamline its production processes and increase its output.

2009

First Battery produced its first automotive AGM battery in South Africa, which was a major achievement for the company.

2011

It launched an extremely vibration-resistant truck battery, which further demonstrated its commitment to innovation and product development.

2012

First Battery launched a Li-ion Miner’s Cap Lamp, which was a significant development in the mining industry. That same year, the company produced its first automotive EFB battery in South Africa, which further demonstrated its commitment to producing high-quality batteries for the automotive industry.

2014

First Battery founded its scrap battery division, which helped to ensure that its products were disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
